Plant it Forward - Lowcountry SC

April 23, 2018

Lowcountry GBCI remote staff is working with Katie's Krops (www.katieskrops.com), a local nonprofit that builds gardens and donates all crops to local food pantries. The team is working with Katie's crops to help plan, fund, build a garden at Hanahan Elementary School. The garden design will also incorporate learning opportunities for students at the school. The planning and design will take place in Fall/Winter 2017 with the planting occurring in Spring 2018.

The project also worked with the College of Charleston (SC) Art Department to design and build a sculpture composed entirely of waste streams from Boeing and Urban Electric Lighting. The art installation is composed of 6 separate elements that will be grouped together. There are five flowers on posts that vary in height from 3' to 6.5' and the honeycomb archway that is 7'. Installation is slated for Fall 2018 to coincide with the start of the new school year.

The project received kind donations of either materials from Mount Pleasant 84 Lumber (building materials and garden tools), Boeing (sculpture materials), Urban Electric (sculpture materials), Katies Crops (plants), Sherwinn Williams (paint), Charleston County (compost), College of Charleston (Sculpture design, creation and installation), Lowcountry Mulch (severely discounted topsoil).
