Outdoor Classroom Volunteering Event - The Tower Companies 6th Annual Green Apple Day of Service

September 26, 2017

The Tower Companies' employees have participated in Green Apple Day since the national campaign was created in 2012 and this will be our 6th year. Our team has partnered with local elementary and middle schools in Montgomery County, Maryland and worked with a variety of partners on outdoor landscaping activities to bring awareness about the importance of native plantings, stormwater runoff, healthy and local food production, etc. to students, teachers, and parents in the community.

In 2017, more than 40 Tower Team members will be planting over 100 plants/trees in the Outdoor Classroom that joins Sligo Creek Elementary School and Silver Spring International Middle School. The Outdoor Classroom is an internal courtyard that provides an opportunity for students to take a hands-on approach to traditional lessons. It has become a learning laboratory where teachers turn discussions about cooperation and responsibility into lessons and where students observe the natural environment through wildlife habitat, weather observation, and harvesting their own food. A special thanks to Ruppert Landscaping for being a valuable partner again this year and donating all of the materials and supplies.
