Kindergarten bee loving planting project

June 01, 2017

We read Bee and Me by Elle J. McGuinness, and then talked as a group about the importance of bees, and their declining population. We talked about the use of harmful pesticides, and the importance of providing food sources for bees so that our own food supply can survive. Each child then planted a bee-loving plant and a basil plant in a compostable pot to take home to plant in their yard.

The students were very interested to learn about what types of food require bees to survive. Many of the students were eager to tell me where they planned to plant their new flower when they got home.
