Carbon Calculating Day
The Athens High School Youth Climate Action Team and the Ohio University sustainability ambassadors teamed up together to hold an educational day for the sixth graders in the Athens Middle School. We planned a series of activities to teach the students about climate change and figure out their total carbon footprint. These activities included having students weigh their classroom waste, measuring the classroom's energy usage, teaching students how to read a kilowatt meter, and completing a transportation survey.

We were able to figure out the students' overall carbon footprint. In addition, after the event, we received thank you notes from the sixth graders. In the notes, we learned what the sixth graders learned from our event. Some examples include the difference between weather/climate and energy usage.
