BeGreenIn18! Video Contest

November 06, 2018

The team at Miron Construction is excited to bring back the "Be Green" video contest. We had so many great submissions last year, including the winning submission from Madison Elementary School here in Stevens Point, that we decided to up the ante this year. This year, Miron is giving away $1,918, in honor of our 100 year anniversary, to a private or public Wisconsin K-12 school, classroom or non-profit educational organization that shows us their best ideas of how they could Be Green in ’18 by creating a video, one minute or less. They need to upload the video to their school’s or organization’s Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or Instagram account with the hashtag #MironBeGreenIn18! The contest will run Sept. 28 through Nov. 6, and the winner will be announced on Nov. 11. The grand prize winner will win $1,918, and the remaining submissions will be included in a book we’ll write together – 100 Ways to Green Your School/Classroom! Ideas will be attributed to the school, classroom and/or organization, and books will be distributed on Earth Day – April 22, 2019.

Miron was moved by two of the video submissions that were received, therefore the owners of Miron agreed to give two grants in the amount of $1,918 in honor of Miron's 100-year anniversary. Corey Brumbaugh and Theresa Lehman received a tour of the existing Fork Farm vertical indoor hydroponics garden, the outdoor school garden, presented the large check, and gave an hour-long presentation to the students and staff of Arete Academy on sustainability and how the students and staff could green their windowless classroom. The teacher, Emily Bennett, continued to stay in contact with Theresa. Theresa has shared grants that she has become aware of to help Arete Academy accomplish their goal of purchasing a hydroponics vertical indoor garden for each school in the Neenah School District, as well as grants that would help transform the Arete Academy classroom into a healthy, sustainable space. Additionally, due to further understanding the STEM curriculum of Arete Academy, Miron purchased the LEED Lab subscription for Emily so she could access the curriculum.

Additionally, Kate Winkler presented the $1,918 check to the entire student body of Indian Hill Elementary School during their February 2019 pep assembly so they could continue to develop their outdoor classroom and garden space.
