Arc Kick Off Training & Investigation

October 19, 2017

Boston Latin School and the students in the YouthCAN green club are committed to going green and improving the sustainability performance of their school! This year YouthCAN students are working with the Boston Public Schools Facilities department to benchmark and track energy, water, waste, transportation and air quality data in a new platform called Arc. USGBC staff are introducing the group to Arc during a kick off training and data investigation. This event will be the first of many service and learning projects connected to data collection and analysis where Arc will be the platform for communication.

More impact of project

YouthCAN students learned all about the importance of sustainability bench marking and tracking. Specifically, students received an overview of how the new tool called Arc works for building performance tracking and how it is being used at the district. They developed an action plan to collect waste, transportation and air quality data to input into the platform over the next month. Next steps also include, 1) students talking about Arc during an upcoming tour and presentation as part of the Greenbuild Conference and Expo, 2) developing activities to engage teachers and students in understanding the data being tracked, and 3) encouraging action projects that spur behavior change and ultimately improve the sustainability performance of their building.
